People believe the military is a top-down organization with little input from the lower ranks. In actuality, decisions are made from the top with input from the bottom. Leaders cannot confuse decision making authority with input and idea generation. Companies must foster a culture of bottom-up input to generate the best ideas and the most growth. Empowerment is key.
